To pay NHIF via M-Pesa for a company, follow these steps:
- Ensure that you have sufficient funds in your M-Pesa account.
- Dial *840# on your phone and press the call button to access the M-Pesa menu.
- Select the “Pay Bill” option and enter the NHIF pay bill number, which is 222222.
- Enter your NHIF account number, which is your Kenyan national identification number.
- Enter the amount you want to pay.
- Review the transaction details and ensure they are correct.
- Enter your M-Pesa PIN to confirm the transaction.
It is important to note that every registered self-employed member is required to make a monthly contribution of KES 500 to their accounts.
Existing members are required to pay on or before the 9th of the following month to avoid penalties. If payments are made after the 9th of the following month, then a penalty of 10% (KES 50) of the voluntary monthly contribution will be surcharged.
A member will be required to pay outstanding arrears and/or penalties to access services. If one makes an error during the process of payment, for example, if one inputs their NHIF Member Number as the M-PESA Account Number instead of their National Identification Number, they can visit the NHIF Accounts Department at any of their offices with a copy of their National Identification Card with the M-PESA message they received from Safaricom capturing the erroneous transaction they made and they will get assistance.
NHIF intends to capture the amounts deducted from every employee every month to ensure faster delivery of services to all the members and their dependants.
This is done by way of employers submitting to NHIF a list of their employee’s brief details such as name, national/passport id etc, together with the respective rate each employee should be deducted.
All this is done online for faster and efficient service delivery to all their clients. They have introduced a far more efficient & faster method of collecting employers monthly payroll byproducts to NHIF via the Byproduct system.
Due to the different types of software applications that employers use to capture their payrolls, they suggest that you use a standardized software application to capture your monthly NHIF byproduct such as Microsoft Excel.
