Telkom Kenya offers its subscribers the option to borrow airtime through its PEWA Emergency Credit service. To borrow airtime from Telkom Kenya, follow these steps:

  1. Dial *133# on your Telkom line.
  2. Select the desired airtime amount between PEWA 20, PEWA 50, or PEWA 100.

Telkom charges a service fee of 10% to process the borrowed airtime. For instance, if you borrow Ksh 50, you will receive Ksh 45 airtime.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the PEWA Emergency Credit service, subscribers need to fulfill the following conditions:

  • Be a Kenyan citizen with a valid National ID (18 years of age and above).
  • Have a valid registered SIM card and have been on any network for at least 90 days.
  • Have a mobile money account, such as Airtel Money, M-Pesa, or T-Kash.
  • The SIM card must have been in use for more than 90 days.


Repayment for the borrowed airtime is made by topping up and paying a fixed amount, for example, KSh 50.

  • The loan interest rate is capped at 8% per annum computed on a pro-rated basis.
  • The loan will be disbursed to the T-kash wallet and repayment made through the wallet as well.
