How to Change Your Name

  1. Draft Deed Poll

    Engage a lawyer to draft a Deed Poll (Form 1) declaring your intention to renounce your old name and adopt a new one.

  2. Registration

    Present the Deed Poll, your Birth Certificate, and ID to the Registrar of Documents for registration.

  3. Gazette Notice

    Pay for and publish a notice of your name change in the Kenya Gazette (via Government Printer).

  4. Apply for New ID

    Once the Gazette Notice is published, use it (and the Deed Poll) to apply for a new National ID and Passport.

Do I need a Deed Poll after marriage?
Usually, no. A marriage certificate is sufficient evidence to change your name on your ID and Passport.
How long does the process take?
